Institute urges Ondo government to domesticate urban, regional planning law

The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) has appealed to Ondo State government to domesticate the Urban and Regional Planning Act, 2004 for effective development of the state, as well as avert social disaster.
The National President of NITP, Mr. Olutoyin Ayinde, who made the appeal at a press conference in Akure, stressed that physical planning would necessitate development that cuts across all strata.
Ayinde lamented that it was worrisome that only three states in the country had embraced the law. “Lagos and Ogun have domesticated it, while Oyo State is trying to do so,” he said.
According to him: “When I took office as national president, I said it was fitting to assess the state of physical planning in Nigeria, because I realised that physical planning had not occupied its place and this is the 10th state I would be visiting. ....

A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has adjourned till May 27, 2021 for the adoption of final written addresses in the case of a collapsed guesthouse of the Synagogue Church of All Nations.
The Lagos State Government had prosecuted the SCOAN over the collapsed building, which killed 116 worshipers of the church on September 12, 2014.
The defendants were two engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, charged alongside their companies Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company and Jandy Trust Ltd.
They were charged with 110 counts bordering on involuntary manslaughter, while the registered trustees of SCOAN were charged with one count of building without approval. ....

FCTA to prosecute 150 land grabbers

The director, who noted that the exercise was part of efforts to harmonise the entire Lugbe area into the Phase IV of the Abuja Master Plan, said when the process is completed, Lugbe would cease to be a satellite town and would become incorporated into the Federal Capital City.
He said over 150 illegal developers have encroached into areas meant for public facilities in the district, adding that names of the illegal developers, who according to him, have forged title documents, would be forwarded to the commissioner of police for prosecution.
“This area was planned for public facilities such as schools, markets, hospitals and other public utilities, but now land grabbers have encroached into the area and captured all the plots meant for public facilities and are developing them as housing estates, thereby denying space for the necessary amenities that will be needed for the district in the future. ....
