Canadians leave their Christmas lights on to get through dark times

Some Canadians are choosing to leave their Christmas lights on a little longer this year in a bid to keep the holiday cheer going during these dark times.
In Kitchener, Ont., Mayor Berry Vrbanovic is encouraging his constituents to keep their Christmas lights on until the end of January, in hopes the lights will help spread some cheer as COVID-19 cases rise and lockdown measures continue.
“It s just going to give them that hope that positivity that is really going to be needed to get them through the dark and dreary months that we have to get through as Canadians every year, and this year is going to be particularly challenging,” he told CTV News. ....

Waterloo Region municipalities receiving $20M in COVID-19 recovery funding


 
KITCHENER
The Region of Waterloo and municipalities in the area are receiving a combined $20 million to help offset costs from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding is part of the province s Safe Restart Agreement and can be used for offsetting operating costs for critical services, along with helping municipalities facing a deficit in 2021.
“This funding will provide our municipalities with the support they need to continue
delivering critical services that we all rely on,” MPP Mike Harris said in a news release.
Here s how the funding will break down locally:
Regional Municipality of Waterloo: $5,644,000
City of Cambridge: $1,298,000
City of Kitchener: $9,634,000 ....
