RTD's Going To Take A Hard Look At Its 'Very Expensive' Fares

When the Regional Transportation District’s CEO and general manager traveled to Denver last year, she found herself struggling to figure out how to use the system she’d been just hired to run.
“I was trying to discern what the base fare was, and it was difficult for me to figure that out,” said Debra Johnson, a veteran of the public transit industry with nearly 30 years under her belt. “If I was having that difficulty, recognizing my acumen, what does that mean for our customers?” ....

Rachel Hicks leaves her home in Littleton and walks to the bus stop. She needs to be at her job at a restaurant at Denver International Airport by 9 a.m.
“It’s 13 degrees outside,” she says. “But it feels like 10 degrees.”

In its few years of existence, Colorado’s Front Range Passenger Rail Commission has done a flurry of work from ridership forecasts and cost estimates to some commissioners pushing for a public vote to raise funds to build the long dreamed of train from Pueblo to Fort Collins.
That vote has not yet happened. And that’s OK, one commissioner said at a meeting Friday, because the commission first needs to answer a very basic question: What does it want to accomplish? ....

From the patch of grass where she stood on a recent morning with her dog Kasha, Rosemarie Chostler could see two of the most important places in her day-to-day life.
The first was her new apartment building, an affordable complex at Sheridan Boulevard and the Lakewood Gulch in west Denver. The second was the Regional Transportation District’s W Line station, just a two-minute walk away. ....

RTD Asked Polis For A Dialogue About The Boulder And Longmont Train. They Got A Lecture Instead

Residential and commercial development in and around Boulder Junction. If or when a commuter train ever comes to Boulder and Longmont, this would be the Boulder stop. Gov. Jared Polis says RTD must follow through on its promise to build a rail line from Denver to Boulder and Longmont in spite of its budget issues. “The train has to come. It was part of the 2004 ballot initiative,” Polis says.
Nearly 90 minutes into the Regional Transportation District board’s Tuesday night meeting on the unfinished commuter rail line to Boulder and Longmont, RTD board chair Angie Rivera-Malpiede interrupted. ....
