Half of vaccinees miss 2nd dose, epidemiologist says

(UPDATED) Over a million individuals who have received their first dose of a vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) have missed their second dose, according to an epidemiologist of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
In his presentation during a town hall on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Dr. John Wong said this can be ascribed not only to vaccine hesitancy but also lack of access to the vaccines.
“We know that some of these people want the vaccine but they can’t access it.From vaccine hesitancy issue, we also have to address access issues,” he said. ....

Firecracker incidents in Central Luzon lower by 95%

THE Department of Health (DOH) said firecracker-related incidents from December 21, 2020 to January 1, 2021 have been significantly lower by at least 95 percent compared to the same period last year.
DOH surveillance reports noted some 15 cases were reported from major hospitals in Central Luzon. About five firecracker accidents were recorded in Pampanga alone but with no casualties recorded.
This is 95-percent lower compared to the same period last year, which recorded 296 cases. The significant decrees had been attributed by the DOH National Office to the ongoing pandemic restrictions and due to the effort of local government units in banning the use of fireworks. ....

Pangilinan: Bureaucracy to slow down COVID vaccine rollout

However, Pangilinan warned that the “slow” bureaucratic process could derail the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination program since he believes that the country could even shore up additional funds to finance it.
“Hindi pera ang problema; bureakrasya ang problema (Money is not the problem; bureaucracy is the problem),” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.
Under the 2021 general appropriations, a total of P72.5 billion was appropriated for the purchase and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, P2.5 billion of which was allocated to the Department of Health, while P70 billion was lodged under the unprogrammed appropriations. ....
