Locum doctor suspended after tribunal hearing


INCIDENT: Royal Bolton Hospital
A DOCTOR who failed to engage with a investigation into an incident at the Royal Bolton Hospital and left a swab inside a patient at another hospital has been suspended from practising medicine.
A hearing at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester heard how Dr Maher Mohammad, who came to the UK in 2006, worked as a doctor specialising in obstetrics for locum agencies around the country.
The hearing heard how Dr Mohammad working in Bolton when he was involved in an incident on July 18, 2018.
But attempts from hospital bosses to obtain statement from him soon afterwords failed. ....

Covid: Rise in patients at Bolton Hospital as Indian variant spreads


Bolton has seen a 97 per cent jump in coronavirus cases over the last seven days, with the total number of cases reaching 473 on Thursday.
Scientists have called for ‘surge vaccinations’ in the affected areas to try and curtail the spread of the Indian variant, designated B1.617.2 which is thought to be more transmissable than the dominant Kent variant which emerged in England last year.
The government has said 3,500 extra Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses will be sent to Blackburn-with-Darwen council from next week.

Coronavirus: Bolton residents urged to attend A&E if necessary


Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has re-released a video pleading with residents to only attend A&E if absolutely necessary.
The trust tweeted a video, originally shared last October, in which the medical director, Dr Francis Andrews, says that the A&E department at the hospital is very busy with people who could be treated elsewhere.
The Tweet, posted yesterday with the video, says: A&E Update. The measures we need to take to keep our emergency department COVID safe at this moment mean that we have less space.
Please only attend A&E if you really need to, so we can prioritise treating the most ill patients who need urgent care. ....
