Despite high-level insecurity in the Northern region of Mozambique, Portuguese businesses have remained resolute.
Early this week, Francisco André, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation visited this troubled region to express solidarity with Mozambicans.
“From the members of the Portuguese community with whom I had the opportunity to meet, I felt very strong ties that exist with Mozambique and with this region and an iron will to face the difficulties”, Francisco André said in an interview with local Cabo Delgado press.
According to this diplomat, despite the challenges and instability caused by armed violence in Cabo Delgado, the Portuguese community and business in that province maintain the same expectations, although it is “perfectly normal to reach the conclusion that the situation of insecurity causes difficulties for economic activity”. ....

Mozambique: Vaccines from Portugal 'opportune' as third wave sets in


Mozambique’s deputy minister of health, Lídia Cardoso, said on Monday that the latest batches of vaccines against Covid-19 donated to the country had arrived at “an opportune time” because it is experiencing a third wave of infections.
“This donation comes to our country at an opportune moment, at a time when the country is being ravaged by a third wave of Covid-19,” she said at Maputo airport, during the reception of 50,000 doses of the Vaxzevria vaccine produced by AstraZeneca, donated to Mozambique by Portugal.
The same day was to see another 108,000 donated by the COVAX international initiative, with support from France. ....
