Study UK Student Connect to help prospective students have personalised discussions with universities: British Council head


The British Council is hosting Study UK Student Connect for Indians looking to study at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in the UK in 2021. The event is on till March 19.
Debanjan Chakrabarti, director, east and north-east, British Council, spoke to

The UK has been a coveted destination for Indian students. How many Indian students went to the UK in 2020 for higher studies?
The number of Indian students studying in the UK has been consistently very high. This is because of the high academic standards of the UK universities. Though we are yet to get the data of how many Indian students were granted student visa in 2020, Indian students going to the UK for higher studies hit a record high in 2019 with 49,844 choosing to study there. Of all the student visas given to international students, around 17% are issued to students from India. ....

Kuala Lumpur: The British Council has launched new British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM aimed at supporting women in strong need of financial support who wish to pursue their master’s degrees in UK universities in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
This new scholarship will allow over 100 women from countries in the Americas, South Asia and East Asia to obtain their advanced degree from a UK university, permitting them to further develop their careers in science.
According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (Unesco), fewer than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women and only 30 percent of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education. Globally, female students’ enrollment is particularly low in Information and Communications Technology (three percent), natural science, mathematics and ....

MALAYSIA must start nurturing the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals from young because the sciences are an important component of the economy.
Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) president Prof Datuk Dr Asma Ismail (pic) said Covid-19 is proof that individuals and industries in the sciences are spared the negative economic repercussions resulting from the pandemic.
