Johnathan Davis… “I’m exactly the kind of person that shouldn’t be in parliament, I’m under 30, I’m not tertiary educated, I’m not just gay, I’m shamelessly queer and I grew up with very little.” Photo: Holly Treadaway
JOHNATHAN Davis’ path to politics may not normally lend itself to life in public office and yet, as he describes it: “That’s a good thing”.
The former real-estate agent sings country music, does stand-up comedy, and was once a karaoke host.

A freezing cold snap will continue to batter Australia s southeast until Wednesday when the weather is expected to ease and return to more bearable temperatures.
Canberra woke up to a blast of icy weather on Sunday morning as the mercury clocked just -5.4C and our capital city is expected to reach 0C later tonight.
The Bureau of Meteorology said while Canberra experienced its coldest day of the year so far, a series of cold fronts sweeping across the country have left many states grabbling with colder-than-usual temperatures.

UNDETERRED by the party’s less-than-spectacular result at October’s territory election, in which it failed to get a single candidate elected, the Belco Party is heading east and south with new branches.
Intent on building on its slim electoral support across the community, it will form branches in the Gungahlin-based electorate of Yerrabi and the Tuggeranong-based seat of Brindabella, adding to its already established branch in the Belconnen-based electorate of Ginninderra.
Former Canberra Liberal leader Bill Stefaniak has confirmed he won’t be re-contesting as a Belco Party candidate for the next ACT election, but will remain as convenor of the expanded Belco Party (ACT). ....

From the Rose Seidler House and Mooloomba House to the Sydney Opera House, these 20 buildings are examples of some of Australia’s most architecturally and historically important structures.
Earlier versions of the descriptions of these buildings first appeared in 1001 Buildings You Must See Before You Die
, edited by Mark Irving (2016). Writers’ names appear in parentheses.
Rose Seidler House
With the uncompromisingly modern Rose Seidler House, Harry Seidler introduced east coast Modern to a country more used to building and living in cottages that would not have looked out of place in late-19th-century Britain. An Austrian émigré, Seidler first studied architecture in Canada before leaving for New York to be taught by Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer. After finishing his studies, Seidler worked in Breuer’s studio before leaving for Australia, a journey he made via Brazil and Oscar Niemeyer’s studio. The influence o ....
