BOARDMAN Mrs. Mary Catherine “Cathy” Denny Queen, wife of Harold W. Queen, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, April 29, 2021.
She was born in Vaucluse, S.C. on Oct. 27, 1928, the youngest of five daughters of Virgil and Mary Spires Denny.
She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Columbia, S.C. and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. for a short time. Due to the serious illness of her father, she had to leave college.
Previously, she worked at the Division of Teacher Education and Certification, State Department of Education as a file clerk and secretary. After her college experience, she returned to the Education Department to complete a six year stint. ....

New Attorney Sworn In: Rica Guelian Jongué-Remy’s Transition from the Classroom to the Courtroom

The legal fraternity in Saint Lucia recently welcomed a new member to its fraternity in the person of Mrs. Rica Guelian Jongué-Remy.
Jongué-Remy, who was Called to the Bar in England and Wales in March 2021, was sworn in at a virtual ceremony held at the law office of Richelieu & Co. in Castries on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
Before venturing into the legal profession, Jongué-Remy taught for 23 and a half years. She taught at La Croix Maingot Primary School from 1997 to 2001 before transitioning to Bocage Secondary School. She later taught at her alma mater St. Joseph’s Convent from June to July 2007. She is presently attached to the Ciceron Secondary School and specializes in Food & Nutrition and Clothing & Textiles. ....

OBU teacher education students teach fifth graders about colonial life

Students in the Division of Teacher Education at Oklahoma Baptist University presented a special hands-on social studies learning opportunity recently for fifth-grade students at Sequoyah Elementary School in Shawnee.
A class of OBU teacher candidates developed the special event through their social studies methods course taught by Dr. Jeanne Akin, Mary A. White professor of education.
The result was an interactive hands-on learning day for around 50 fifth graders at Sequoyah, held at the elementary school. “Life as a Colonist” provided a day to experience first-hand many aspects of a colonist s life such as making butter, scrubbing clothes in a tub with a scrub-board, creating silversmith work, making candles, making ink, learning about taxes and writing with a quill. The day ended with the fifth graders signing their own name to the Declaration of Independence and enjoying a picnic. ....
