House Bill 2396 by Rep. Todd Russ, R-Cordell, was signed into law this week.
The measure authorizes certain nonprofit organizations to provide a series of in-depth sex trafficking prevention and education programs to freshmen students at Oklahoma colleges and universities. State colleges and universities are required to provide their freshman students with the opportunity to attend one of three on-campus programs during freshman orientation.
Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, is the Senate author of the bill.
The measure also specifies that program materials shall be provided at no cost to participating students and their parents and legal guardians. Senate sends student vision bill to governor
OKLAHOMA CITY — Legislation to help public schools more quickly identify students with vision problems passed the Senate on Wednesday.
House Bill 1598, authored by Rep. Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa and Sen. Marty Quinn, R-Claremore, authorizes the State Department of Education to approve a list of personnel who may conduct required vision screenings for students.
The American Optometric Association estimates that current school eye exams give less than four percent of a comprehensive eye exam. HB1598 would increase the chances of success for students with vision problems.

The long-awaited decision was released Wednesday morning, more than four months after the court heard arguments in the case. The court ruled 4-3, with all conservative justices in the majority and liberal justices offering a dissent. The question in this case is not whether the Governor acted wisely; it is whether he acted lawfully, conservative justice Brian Hagedorn wrote in the court s majority opinion. We conclude he did not.” The ruling immediately ends Wisconsin s statewide mask mandate. Loc ....
