Funding coming for long-term care homes

The Ontario government is investing over $1.255 million to increase prevention and containment efforts in long-term care homes during the second wave of COVID-19.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson made the announcement, and says the new funding will further help reduce the risk of the virus from entering long-term care homes.
The funds will be used to cover expenses for things like 24/7 health checkpoints for everyone entering buildings, additional prevention and containment activities like hiring new staff, enhanced cleaning, and implementing infection control measures based on clinical evidence.

COVID-19 cases nearly double over holiday, three active in Goderich

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Huron-Perth region has nearly doubled over the Christmas weekend, jumping from 53 active cases on Christmas Eve to 101 reported by local public health officials on Dec. 28.
Huron Perth public health reported a smattering of new cases across Huron County, including three in Goderich, nine new cases in Stratford, one in St. Marys and several each in Perth South, Perth East and West Perth. By far, the largest jump was seen in North Perth, with 26 new cases identified since Thursday. In total, officials identified 70 new cases over the holiday weekend.

Starting number of COVID-19 cases in Huron Perth since Christmas

Startling numbers from Huron Perth Public Health with 70 new cases since the last report.
North Perth leads the way with 26 cases, while Morris Turnbury is the only municipality in Huron Perth without a new case.
Currently there are 101 active cases which is a huge increase from the just over 50 in the last report.
As for outbreaks the Exeter Villa has 9 active cases with 5 among staff and 4 among residents.
Braemar Retirement Centre in North Huron has 1 case, Caressant Care in North Perth has 1 case, Hillside Manor in Perth East has 1 case, Knollcrest Lodge in Perth East has 2 cases.
The Listowel Hospital has 14 cases with 9 among staff and 5 in patients. ....

Huron-Perth COVID-19 cases "explode" over holiday weekend

Though doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are being administered to staff at long-term care homes, retirement homes and hospitals in outbreak across the Huron-Perth region, Dr. Miriam Klassen, the local medical officer of health, says the recent jump in active cases is an indicator that weâre not out of the woods just yet.
Speaking with media during the Dec. 29 briefing, Dr. Klassen reported 87 active cases of COVID-19 in the region â a slight dip from the 101 active cases reported by the health unit on its website one day earlier.
