AMC Networks’ Acorn TV and Screen Australia have announced a new, eight-episode Australian romantic mystery series Darby and Joan from CJZ.
This bold, irreverent series stars Emmy®-nominated and Logie-winning actor Bryan Brown (Bloom) and Emmy-winning actress Greta Scacchi (War & Peace) as two lone strangers trekking on the road – a retired Australian policeman with a dog as his only company and widowed English nurse – who meet each other and embark together on an epic odyssey in the outback of northern Australia. Acorn Media International is the international distributor of the series, which will begin production in Queensland this month. Federal funding body Screen Australia confirmed its backing for a trio of Australian film projects that will now move forward into production. Director Robert Connolly (“The Dry”) is behind two of them as producer.
The funding decisions ensure that a steady stream of local films move into production, alongside the large volume of international films and TV series that are currently in Australia, taking advantage of generous incentives and good coronavirus control conditions.

Screen Australia has announced $5.6 million of production funding for three feature films and two television dramas. The projects include a new animated drama from Adam Elliot (Mary and Max); along with second seasons of Bump for Stan and The Secrets She Keeps for Network 10.
Also among the recipients are feature drama Petrol from writer/director Alena Lodkina and Western Australian feature film Kid Snow.
