The Muhlenberg College history professor, going about her domestic chores last month, noticed something she hadn’t before – a metal box stowed in the corner of her kitchen’s stone fireplace. She pulled it out and was, at first, shocked and then delighted.
“It was covered with a couple of inches of dust,” Antonovitch said. “I could tell it was back there forever. I pulled it out and wiped off the dust. I was excited to see it was a military first aid kit for gas casualties. I could tell right away it was from World War II and I imagined I would find some old-timey medical supplies that I could use in my teaching.”
