Apr 29, 2021 Plattsburgh police chief Levi Ritter s has resigned and the city is looking for a new leader of its police department.
Plattsburgh mayor, Chris Rosenquest announced the chief’s resignation in a written statement on Thursday. Ritter has been on paid administrative leave since late December.
During his absence, the Rosenquest said his administration decided it wanted to make changes to the leadership of the police department.
The mayor s statement said that Ritter decided to resign after discussions between the two did not resolve concerns. What those concerns were was not explained in the statement. ....

In the wake of Minneapolis resident George Floyd’s 2020 death in custody of that city s police department, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered cities and towns across New York to create plans to reform local police departments.
The Plattsburgh City Council recently approved its plan which contained 20 recommended changes, including body cameras and the creation of a Crisis Intervention Team for mental health emergencies. ....

Plattsburgh Officials Approve Police Reform Plan

Communities across New York were mandated to perform a review of their police departments and policing policies and submit a plan to the state by April 1st detailing reforms in procedures and community engagement. The Plattsburgh Common Council approved the city’s recommended plan Wednesday night.
The only resolution on the agenda at the Plattsburgh Common Council’s meeting Wednesday evening was the adoption of the Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Plan mandated by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Order 203. Most discussion on the draft had occurred during previous meetings of the Public Safety Committee. The Public Safety Review Panel first presented the plan to the committee in February.
