Nuisances in Lake Biwako turned into leather goods : The Asahi Shimbun


OTSU New specialties have been born from the collaboration of two nuisances in Lake Biwako.
Leather goods were developed using the black bass, an alien species which exerts a negative impact on the lake’s ecosystem, and water plants growing in large numbers to hinder the navigations of fishing boats.
Though they are priced mainly between 20,000 yen ($183) and 50,000 yen, bass anglers and others are showing interest in them.
The new products include wallets carrying price tags of 35,200 yen to 52,800 yen as well as a 33,000-yen key case and a change purse with a price of 26,400 yen.
They all use the carefully tanned skin of the black bass from Biwako and dyed with an agent based on waterweed from the lake. ....

On February 25, Kazutoshi Kitagawa, 65, allegedly unzipped his pants and revealed his lower body to the 69-year-old woman while he was seated in a chair in the

Vijitha Kanda Lekamlage Samarasinghe, who represented Sri Lanka in the marathon at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, was born in Kuruwita on January 16, 1962 and was educated at Parakaduwa Narada MV.
He had participated in several athletic events under the guidance of his Games Teacher Nihal Fernando.
In 1983, he made his appearance for the first time in the National Marathon and was placed fourth. In 1985, he was placed second and in 1986, he won this event.
Thereafter, he came under the wing of Coach Lakshman de Alwis and went on to participate in several international marathons between 1986 and 1991. His best achievement was 2:16.00s at the SAF Games in 1987, held in Kolkata, India. ....
