Last modified on Sun 3 Jan 2021 01.03 EST The Great 9pm, Channel 4 Elle Fanning stars as 18th Century Russian royalty Catherine the Great in this deeply entertaining tale of power plays and punishment. We open with a young Catherine travelling to Russia to marry the Emperor, Peter (Nicholas Hoult). She soon learns that Peter is petulant and spoiled, though, and despite her thwarted efforts to make a life for herself nonetheless by building a women’s school, it begins to dawn on Catherine that the only way for her to have a happy life might be to remove Peter from the picture… ....
It challenges the audience s perception right from the get go! I like to think of it as an ensemble of contemporary characters in a period setting, and the challenges and dilemmas they face are as vital as our dilemmas and challenges today. Dhawan adds: I felt immensely proud as an actor of colour to not only wear a period costume, but a costume that gave the character status at court. Sacha Dhawan as Count Orlo in The Great - Credit: Jason Bell I was dressed to be ‘seen’, right on the front line as it were, and I loved that. Not only was there a real attention to detail, but our brilliant costume designer, Emma Fryer, was also really collaborative to ensure that we created a period costume that was totally unique to Orlo; from the way his neck scarf was tied, right down to the style and colour of his shoes. ....
Credit: Hulu Huzzah! The Great, Hulu s historical comedy about Russia s Catherine the Great, was one of the great (sorry!) surprises of 2020. In addition to phenomenal performances from the cast which includes Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Sebastian de Souza, Belinda Bromilow, and many more the show features lush production design and stunning costumes. Even still, she felt that the costumes needed to be both period-appropriate and modern, so she set out on some field trips. The scri ....
List slides Better Things, “Listen To The Roosters” In the year that the comfort watch reigned, I suppose it’s only natural that my favorite episode is also the one I found most restorative. Pamela Adlon wrapped another exceptional season of television with “Listen To The Roosters,” a season finale that’s equally bracing and gracious. The episode comprises three parts with their own narratives and genre: The first is almost a whimsical ghost story, the second is live theater, while the conclusion is nothing less than a spell. season four was about metabolizing even your anger decades-old and warranted though it may be to make room for something more positive, more beneficial. But Adlon never glossed over the hurt or resentment; as Sam Fox, she’s had to sit with every betrayal, every rejection, every disappointment. And because of that, she couldn’t just churn out a conventional closer to the latest installment of her coming-of-middle-age ....
