Dail Barbour is ready to get back to work despite what could be a tense situation when she returns to the Teton County Library Board.
That’s in part the result of a four-month-long legal dispute with the Teton County Board of County Commissioners, which removed her from the library board without notice and behind closed doors in November.
Barbour filed a lawsuit and won an initial hearing in court, after which the County Commission reinstated her to the board. Although the suit is settled, some of the questions it raised about transparency and the library are not. In an interview after her reinstatement Barbour said the support she received from the community — she crowdfunded over $10,000 for legal fees but plans to donate the money — wasn’t about her. ....

Barbour wants case to be heard; hearing set for Wednesday


Dail Barbour is arguing that her lawsuit against the County Commission, which removed her from the library board without notice and behind closed doors, has a right to be heard.
That’s despite the Teton County Board of County Commissioners’ motion to dismiss her case. County attorneys argued that Barbour is “not entitled to relief.”
But Barbour’s attorneys — Bruce Moats, a Cheyenne-based specialist in access to government and public records, and Wilson lawyer Len Carlman — say that’s not the case.
“Commissioners may not arbitrarily dismiss a member after a 45-minute, closed meeting, based on hearsay,” they wrote. “This does not satisfy even minimal due process.” ....
