A graceful photograph of blacktip reef sharks cruising beneath sea gulls at sunset in French Polynesia sees Renee Capozzola from the United States named Underwater Photographer of the Year 2021. Capozzola s photograph triumphed over 4500 underwater pictures entered by underwater photographers from 68 countries. She is the first female photographer to be named overall winner of the prestigious international photography contest.

Midwives and doulas see rise of home births in mid-Missouri

JEFFERSON CITYâ Midwives and doulas in mid-Missouri have noticed an increase in home birth services, mostly due to COVID-19.
The CDC reported 1,183 births occurred in homes across Missouri in 2018. Birth photographer and trained doula Danielle Saforek said her services increased by 50% since 2019.
Most of my clients inquiring last year were for home births, and the pandemic had a lot to do with it, Saforek said.
Audra Davis is a mother of three. She has a rare medical condition called Dysautonomia, a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System that regulates heart rate, blood pressure and digestion.
She had a hospital birth for her first-born child, but wanted a home birth for her now 8 month old to reduce stress and have her family present during birth. ....

Annual festival brightens cloudy Portland nights; it ll light things up Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13.
The Portland Winter Light Festival had to evolve in its sixth year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and government safety restrictions. It s called the Portland Winter Light (non)Festival this year and includes a series of installations, video projections and more around Portland, in which spectators can be socially distanced.
Photographer Diego Diaz visited many of the sites with lights last weekend and documented them with the accompanying photos.
The largest concentration of installations are in downtown Portland, around Pioneer Courthouse Square. Around the city, lights will come on again this weekend, 6-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Feb. 12-13. ....
