PRACHINBURI, Thailand: From spicy happy salads to soups sprinkled with cannabis shoots and deep-fried marijuana leaves – a Thai hospital restaurant has rolled out a weed-inspired menu which has curious customers flocking to sample its euphoria-inducing offerings.
Since becoming the first Southeast Asian country to legalise medical marijuana in 2018, Thailand has ploughed ahead on the extraction, distillation and marketing of cannabis oil – eager to capitalise on the multibillion-dollar industry. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of staff overseeing halal certification-related matters should be increased to enable them to cope with certification duties in Malaysia and abroad.
Fiqh Fatwa, Food and Contemporary Consumerism expert Associate Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim said this would not only empower the halal-certification process but also allow for better monitoring and enforcement.
The matter (of having more staff for the halal-certification process) was raised previously by certain quarters. Following the recent issue, I believe it is time for this so that we can empower the country s halal certification, he said yesterday. ....
