East Hampton Wind Farm Hearing To Be Held Jan. 12

The East Hampton Town Board will accept public comments on the latest draft of its agreements to allow the cable from the South Fork Wind Farm to be placed under town roads at its Tuesday, Jan. 12 work session, which begins at 11 a.m.
The Host Community Agreement and a separate Easement Agreement allow South Fork Wind, LLC to place the transmission cable in the roadbed along about 4.1 miles of town roads from the landing site at Beach Lane in Wainscott to an electric substation on Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton, in exchange for $28.9 million in benefits to the town over the next 25 years. ....

Suffolk County lawmakers will look in the New Year into creating a digital platform to help town and village governments join and operate pacts to lower energy costs for consumers.
Community Choice Aggregation, known as CCA, allows for local governments to seek competitive bids for energy so consumers wouldn’t have to settle for the price set by a utility company.
Gordian Raacke, the executive director of Renewable Energy Long Island, said the CCA could also require all or some portion of electricity and gas to come from renewable sources.
“It goes beyond just supplying power. CCAs can purchase power from energy suppliers just like the utilities do today, Raacke said. But CCAs could also run local energy efficiency programs and offer bulk purchase programs for solar panels and electric vehicles and things like that.” ....

East Hampton Residents At Odds Over Offshore Wind Plan

Developers of an offshore wind farm that’s 30 miles off eastern Long Island have offered nearly $29 million to the Town of East Hampton. That’s in exchange for permission to run a cable transmission line underground using town property to a nearby substation.
Gordian Raacke heads Renewable Energy Long Island. Raacke said the town should ignore certain naysayers, and take the deal when the town board meets in January.
Everything we build has some kind of an impact and can cause some kind of an inconvenience to someone. But in the bigger picture, the benefits of switching to carbon free energy, that I think on balance outweighs any negative impacts that we would see from a wind farm or a local cable running underground to an electrical substation,” Raacke said. ....
