In 2020, PLOS ONE published a Collection of research articles entitled Plastics in the Environment, submitted to a Call for Papers on this important topic. A year later, we are checking in with some of the authors who are a part of this collection, to hear their thoughts on where this research field is headed, and what all of us can do to support their work.

Nora the carbon explorer and the quest for supply chains

A comic strip has been launched to raise awareness of the renewable carbon concept and to anchor it in the political discourse.
Created by the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI), ‘Nora and her Flyphone on Renewable Carbon’ aims to explain the carbon concept vividly in just a few illustrated images. The format, says the RCI, works perfectly for traditional and social media, and “resonates with business and public networks”.
The RCI was launched in September 2020 by 11 companies from six countries under the leadership of Germany’s nova-Institute, and seeks to create new value and supply chains based on renewable carbon, i.e. bio-based, carbon dioxide-based and recycled carbon sources that have one thing in common: Abandonment of fossil carbon. ....
