Higgins appeals for solidarity as world exits pandemic

Updated / Wednesday, 17 Mar 2021 14:05 President Michael D Higgins said that in years to come we will parade again and gather in celebration President Michael D Higgins has called for this St Patrick s Day to be the beginning of a new journey for the people of Ireland as people emerge from the destructive and debilitating Covid-19 pandemic. In his annual message, the President said  this journey from a disease that has reminded us of our shared vulnerability and interdependence should be shared with the whole world. He said: We must all, and together, exit the fog of not only the pandemic but all of the hubris, the arrogance, the vanities of assuming the right to dominate, to impose, to exclude; strategies of life which have left us such a legacy of lost communality and a planet in danger.

St Patrick’s Day should remind us of “our shared vulnerability, our interdependence, the need for an understanding that can fly past borders”.
