Northern Virginia, VA… The Northern Virginia Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Committee is pleased to announce the creation of the Northern Virginia Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

The purpose of this team is to investigate critical incidents involving law enforcement officers within the cooperating jurisdictions. The team is comprised of seasoned criminal detectives, crime scene technicians, and commanders from the 11 participating agencies . The Chief Executive Officer of each participating agency in Northern Virginia will have the option of calling upon this multi-jurisdictional team to investigate incidents within their localities. These incidents include but are not limited to; law enforcement involved shootings, any action taken by law enforcement which results in the death or a life-threatening injury of a person in the performance of an officer/deputy s duties, in custody deaths, and law enforcement officer suicides. ....

Purcellville Town Council appoints nine members to policing advisory committee


After interviewing 14 candidates in a virtual meeting Monday night, the Purcellville Town Council voted unanimously to appoint nine residents to the Community Policing Advisory Committee.
Committee members who will serve a two-year term, effective Jan. 4, 2021, are Leonard “Rusty” Markland, a former police officer; Payton Arnett, a student at Woodgrove High School; Elizabeth Ford, a mother of five and founder of the nonprofit BetterALife Inc.; Thomas “Brent” Christie, a 20-year resident in town, father of two boys and volunteer coach; and Caleb Stought, who has served in the U.S. Army for the past 10 years.
Committee members serving a one-year term are Christopher Baltimore, a 21-year Purcellville resident and information security analyst who serves as an election official; Kirk Balthazar, a Department of Defense contractor; St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Pastor Dave Milam, who was involved in the creation of the committee; and Larry Simms, a lif ....

Purcellville Town Council takes action on remaining CARES Act funding


The Purcellville Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a motion to allocate the town s remaining $500,000 federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) funding to the town police department s payroll.
The town received a total of $1,783,864 in Coronavirus Relief Funds, which was based on population and was distributed by Loudoun County in two payments received in June and October.
The U.S. Treasury has mandated a spending deadline of Dec. 31, 2020. Any remaining unspent funds must be returned to the county.
The town had previously allocated about $1.2 million for community businesses and nonprofit organizations.
In other business, the town council unanimously approved a proposal to extend the town s water and sewer service to a potential county-owned Western Loudoun Recreation Aquatic Center. ....
