AutoNation Elects Rick Burdick As Chairman; To Repurchase Up To Addl $1 Bln Of Stock
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - AutoNation Inc. (AN) said it elected Rick Burdick as Chairman of the Board. The change was made as part of the Board s succession plan and previously announced decision to separate the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Burdick has served as one of AutoNation s directors since May 1991 and as Lead Independent Director since December 2018. Effective as of February 15, 2021, Rick Burdick assumed the position of independent Chairman of the Board thereby succeeding Mike Jackson, AutoNation s Chief Executive Officer, as Chairman. Jackson will continue in his role as Chief Executive Officer and remain on the Board. ....

My journalism addiction developed long ago when I was the reporter for my 4-H club. Being the editor of my high school newspaper followed. Then I majored in journalism at Kansas State University and worked on the K-State Collegian, the student newspaper. The addiction blossomed when I was a reporter and co-manager of a twice-weekly English-language newspaper in Costa Rica. A similar job nudged it along at a weekly newspaper in Kansas.
Although I recently retired after nearly 40 years as a journalism professor, I’m continuing my weekly online column, “Kansas Snapshots,” which is in its 20th year. A book I co-authored came out two months ago. I will carry on with history-related features for local newspapers, and other writing projects beckon. ....

No signs of COVID lessening; at least 58 new cases in 2 days

Reports of at least 67 new cases of COVID-19 in Marion County since Wednesday provided stark evidence Monday that the county s 10-month pandemic was showing no signs of lessening.
The county was one of only seven statewide exhibiting an increase in cases last week. Bethesda Home in Goessel and Parkside Homes in Hillsboro were among 28 long-term care facilities in the state labeled as COVID-19 clusters.
State data cite 20 cases at Bethesda in the 14 days that ended Jan. 17 and 5 cases at Parkside in the 14 days that ended Jan. 14.
Overall, the new cases bring to at least 911 the county’s total number of cases. That s the total according to county data. In data released the same day, Kansas Department of Health and Environment puts the total nine higher. ....

But it hasn’t always been easy.
Moore admits that he allowed himself to become bitter after a rare cancer derailed his athletic dreams and he battled an addiction.
“I had a lot of struggles in my life,” he said. “I grew up a Christian and fell into a lot of sin and struggle.”
It was then, he said, that God “broke him in powerful ways” and allowed him to rediscover Christ with a call to spread the gospel through TREK Multiply, the mission agency of the Mennonite Brethren church.

Firms hired for road projects

Commissioners took several steps to improve the county’s roads and bridges during Tuesday’s meeting.
Commissioners hired Asphalt Paving and Maintenance LLC for $198,900 to crush 39,000 tons of concrete formerly used as road surfacing.
“It’s a tremendous amount of concrete that will be used all over the county for several years,” engineer Brice Goebel said.
Commissioners also hired BG Consultants for engineering services to replace a bridge on Eagle Rd. that crosses French Creek. The county will pay the engineering company $46,500.
Rebuilding 20 miles of Nighthawk Rd. will get started after possible change orders to a $2,653,500 contract with Coughlin Co., St. George, Utah. ....
