Most students of World War II know that there were five invasion beaches included in Operation Overlord, the invasion of northwestern Europe, on June 6, 1944. There are numerous writings concerning Omaha Beach, where the 1st and 29th U.S. Infantry Divisions suffered heavily at the hands of the German defenders. The successful landings by the 4th U.S. Infantry Division at Utah Beach are also well covered. New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANSlife) Sir Winston Churchills Scene at Marrakech (circa 1935, estimate: £300,000-500,000) will highlight the Modern British Art Evening Sale, which takes place on 1 March 2021 by auction house Christie’s.
The painting was a gift from Churchill to Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, one of the most distinguished generals of the Second World War who played a vital role in the retreat from the battle of Dunkirk, which saved many allied lives. Montgomery was instrumental in the tactics that delivered an eventual victory for the allied forces in 1945. The painting has remained with the Montgomery family since it was gifted by Churchill and is being offered at auction for the first time. ....
