A city man who allegedly took $24,000 from Harrah’s Casino and Racetrack in November has been held for trial on all counts following a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Dawn Vann Tuesday. Markile Washington, 27, of the 100 block of Mowry Street, is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for the Nov. 30 robbery. The theft occurred about 11:42 p.m. as a casino employee was counting money, according to an incident report. The woman told police that Washington had approached and asked to use the phone. She gave him the phone and then turned her back and continued to count, according to the report. She said she believed the money drawer was closed, but it was left slightly open, allowing Washington to allegedly reach in and grab stacks of $ ....

Man accused in fatal stabbing of ex-girlfriend in Abington gets a trial date


NORRISTOWN — A September trial date has been set for a Philadelphia man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend during a knife attack at the Meadowbrook Train Station in Abington.
Gilbert Newton III, 19, will face a Montgomery County Court jury on Sept. 27 when his trial is slated to get under way in connection with the alleged 8:15 a.m. July 27, 2020, fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Morgan Darlyn McCaffery, of Abington, as the pair reportedly met on the parking lot of the train station to discuss their relationship.
The trial before Judge William R. Carpenter is expected to last five days, according to court records. The trial date was scheduled after a conference between the judge and the lawyers in the case. ....
