Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Announces Florida’s Withdrawal from Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced another key step to returning more Floridians to work, following April’s labor statistics which show total private-sector employment increased by 18,800 jobs and more than 460,000 online job postings available throughout the state for job seekers. Florida will end its participation in the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program, the $300 per week supplemental FPUC payment, effective June 26, 2021, as part of DEO’s ‘Return to Work’ initiative.
Note that the additional federal Reemployment Assistance benefit programs, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), and Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC), will continue for the time ....

Florida s Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that it plans to end weekly pandemic unemployment benefits on June 26.
The DEO issued a statement on Monday about its plans, saying the state added 18,000 private sector jobs in April, with more than 460,000 job postings online for unemployed workers.

According to a new poll released by
Ryan Tyson of The Tyson Group, Florida voters support several measures pitched as improving election security and voter access.
The poll, commissioned by nonpartisan nonprofit Secure Democracy, found more than three-quarters of Floridians want ballot drop boxes to be monitored either in-person or by video.
The proposal earned 77% among the 600 voters polled, with Republicans backing it at a higher rate (83%) than Democrats or no-party voters.
Meanwhile, nearly seven in 10 said they want their family members or caregivers to be able to turn in a ballot on their behalf. A near equal number (67%) want more days of early voting, while most (57%) want the state to tell felons what fines they need to pay to regain voting rights. ....

As COVID-19 vaccinations through the Alachua County office of the Florida Department of Heath and local hospitals continue, the rollout for seniors and others in the general population is broadening.
Local health care leaders say COVID-19 vaccine supplies are “getting tight,” but Alachua County is making good progress distributing its supplies. While winter weather has delayed some shipments of the vaccine, they re still coming.
As of March 22, more than 65,000 people here had received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, and more than 46,000 of them had completed the series with their second dose. ....
