The COVID-19 outbreak at Spring Valley Seniors Community long-term care in Kelowna is now over.
There were 48 cases of COVID-19 linked to the outbreak affecting 36 residents and 12 staff, according to an Interior Health media release. Twelve people died due to their illness.
An outbreak is declared over when two incubation periods, or 28 days, have passed from the last onset of symptoms in a resident.
Spring Valley Seniors Community is a long-term care facility operated by Park Place Seniors Living with 150 publicly-funded long-term care beds and one privately funded bed.

Three people have died during the COVID-19 outbreak at the Spring Valley Seniors Community long-term care home in Kelowna.
The outbreak was declared on April 28 after one resident and one staff member tested positive.
As of today, May 6, there are 32 cases in the facility, including 22 residents and 10 staff, according to an Interior Health news release. Interior Health doesn’t say whether those who died were staff or residents.
Spring Valley is one of three outbreaks currently in Kelowna.
The Sandalwood Retirement Resort independent living facility in Kelowna has 28 cases including 26 staff. One person has died.
There is also a COVID-19 outbreak at the Orchard Haven long-term care in Keremeos with two cases, one resident and one staff. ....

Interior Health declares COVID-19 outbreak at another Kelowna long-term care home
Interior Health is now up to four active COVID-19 outbreaks after declaring a new one this morning.
The latest is at Spring Valley Seniors Community, a long-term care home in Kelowna’s Rutland neighbourhood.
“One resident and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19,” explained a release from the health authority.
“Contact tracing is underway and anyone in close contact is being provided direction on self-isolation and monitoring for symptoms.”
Outbreak protocols have been put in place, which includes a pause on all visits, and IH will continue to monitor the situation and implement the necessary infection control measures. ....
