Gopher control underway in Regina parks; wildlife advocate concerned

The City of Regina is warning pet owners of poison in the city’s parks.
It has started its annual gopher extermination program, where poison is placed in burrows to kill the rodents.
Yellow signs that read “gopher control” are set up at any park where the poison has been deployed.
Russell Eirich, the City’s manager of open space services, said pet owners need to keep an eye out for those signs. He said if a dog were to eat the poison or a gopher that had been poisoned, it could get sick or die. ....

Therapsil, a non-profit that seeks to promote access to psilocybin therapy, saw a board of directors’ member join the Lobby Registry. It’s looking to promote patient-centred psilocybin research in Canada, and help patients and doctors access psilocybin through special regulations.

Edmonton transit users are part of a six-month pilot project assessing a new and surprisingly simple method of killing dangerous bacteria on touch surfaces door push plates made of compressed salt.
The pilot project, conducted by Edmonton biotechnology startup Outbreaker Solutions, involves compressing sodium chloride (the chemical name for salt) into moulds to form hard, smooth, ceramic-like materials. This compressed sodium chloride (CSC) can be used on high-touch surfaces such as door handles, handrails, hospital beds, bus railings and taps. In the transit test project, CSC push plates will be installed outside doors in 10 LRT stations, with the first already mounted by the doors inside the Bay/Enterprise Square station in downtown Edmonton. ....
