Trump resembles a classic SNL liar, on steroids | Letters

Trump resembles a classic SNL liar, on steroids | Letters
Today 8:48 AM
Donald Trump is Tommy Flanagan on steroids. Even U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a current Trump sycophant, previously referred to him as “a pathological liar,” which Trump “wittily” countered with “Lying Ted.”
Washington Post fact checkers figured that Trump lied 30,573 during his presidency. Lying is nothing new to him. He’s lied about his wealth, his inauguration crowd, paying off porn stars, and the COVID-19 pandemic costing thousands of American lives.
But, most damaging to our democracy are Trump’s lies that he won reelection in 2020. These have led to violence, destruction and death. ....

New Jersey Board Grants Plant Subsidies - News - Nuclear Power News - Nuclear Street - Nuclear Power Plant News, Jobs, and Careers

New Jersey Board Grants Plant Subsidies
New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities has granted the state’s three nuclear power plants a $300 million subsidy designed to keep the plants from closing in the face of lower prices for electricity and the onrush of the climate crisis.
The fear, according to WHYY news, is that the zero-carbon emissions nuclear plants will close, setting the stage for fossil-fuel burning plants to step in and take their place.
“Were these plants to close, we would lose the single largest source of the state’s overall clean energy power supply,” said board president Joe Fiodaliso. ....

“Apparently the legislature’s call for data-based decision making, months of analysis by various consultants, and the preparation of voluminous reports by numerous parties were a meaningless exercise,” said Commissioner Bob Gordon. “Personally, I’m very disappointed by the level of intransigence in this exercise of market power.”
PSEG CEO Ralph Izzo previously said before the BPU and in an earnings call that the company would actually need more than the full amount allowed under the law to operate the plants. The cost of operating nuclear plants and complying with strict regulations, lower prices driven by an increase in natural gas production, and the lack of a nationwide greenhouse gas emissions policy has put PSEG’s nuclear energy sect ....
