Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 22) An environmental advocacy group on Thursday reminded everyone to properly sort their waste, including face masks, which have become a big issue amid the pandemic.
We continue to call for segregation of source because that is the only way that the solid waste can be managed accordingly, Earth Day Network Philippines trustee-in-charge Voltaire Alferez told CNN Philippines New Day.
But at the same time, the duty falls upon the local government units that while segregation of source is being done and should always be done by their collectors.so that landfills can also receive the residuals and all else should be recycled or composted, he added. ....

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu made this call to Filipinos on Wednesday, April 21, a day ahead of the celebration of Earth Day.
“From individuals to communities, we can all be part of the solution in addressing climate change and many other environmental issues. When we stop environmentally harmful activities, not only do we save nature, we also minimize the risk on the spur of new viruses,” Cimatu said in a statement.
The theme of this year’s Earth Day celebration is “Doing our Fair Share to Restore the Earth.” ....

Pro-environment group Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment (Kalikasan PNE) made this revelation Wednesday, April 21, a day ahead of the celebration of Earth Day.
But Kalikasan PNE held off from substantiating the ecological deficit claim, saying environmentalists would do so on Earth Day, April 22, during the annual State of the Philippine Environment (SPE) Forum.
Dubbed “SPE 2021: State of Planetary Emergency,” the vritual event will have panelists who will give an assessment of the environmental situation under the economic recovery agenda of the Duterte government.
“A highlight revelation would be the P680-billion ‘ecological deficit’ incurred from the first day of COVID-19 lockdown up to today,” Kalikasan PNE said. ....
