Four marquee baseball events coming to Calfee Park in July

Calfee Park Baseball, Inc. has announced it will host four special event baseball games this July, culminating with the inaugural Appalachian League All-Star Game presented by Pennzoil on July 26th and 27th.
The special event slate includes an Appalachian League International Tour exhibition game July 10th, a USA Baseball Collegiate National exhibition game July 13th and the All-Star Game event July 26th and 27th.
Each special event will be free to the public and no advance tickets will be offered. Reserved season ticket holders, box holders and VIP ticket holders will have their seats reserved for these events. ....

Jaguars Should Be Reintroduced Into The US, Conservationists Argue


After meeting the grim fate of overhunting in the 20th century, is it time the stunningly ferocious jaguar had another shot at living in the US? This team of researchers believes so. 
Writing in the journal Conservation Science and Practice, researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society and Defenders of Wildlife put forward their case for reintroducing jaguars to the mountainous southwestern stretches of the US. 
Jaguars are the largest cat species in the Americas, armed with lean muscles and a powerful bite, also known for their distinctive spotty tan-colored fur. The species (
Panthera onca) roamed the central mountain ranges of Arizona and New Mexico as late as the 1960s until they were hunted to local extinction. Today, odd individuals can very occasionally be spotted living in the southern corners of the US, but the species is generally limited to portions of South America and Central America. Auction houses selling Native cultural items


WASHINGTON – It is that time of year again when a slew of domestic and international auction houses are selling sensitive Native American cultural heritage items.
According to the Association of American Indian Affairs, it has so far in this year investigated 66 domestic and foreign auctions that are selling at least 3,000 items that were likely stolen burial objects or are cultural and sacred patrimony owned by one of the 574 federally recognized Native nations or 300 other tribal nations and groups in the United States. 
AAIA officials said there is a long history of theft and looting of Native American human remains, burial objects and other sensitive sacred and cultural patrimony. This theft and looting has created a commercial enterprise in the sale of those items, now re-labeled as Native American “art,” “artifacts” and “antiquities,” AAAI officials said.  ....
