The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach recently received a $100,000 grant as a challenge gift to support inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
Joe Ziomek, a club alumnus and recently retired financial advisor, said the Club’s programs and leadership shaped his life perspective, enhanced his self-esteem, and provided inspiration which led to his business success.
“I knew I wanted to leave a legacy in Laguna Beach. A community that has so much and has given so much to me.” Ziomek said in a press release. “I not only want to share with those that are less fortunate but inspire others to do the same. What better way to do that, than to give to the youth organization that had the biggest impact on my life and have them carry on my life’s work.” ....

Arthur Wexell affectionately and famously known to his family and friends as Wex passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2021, at 28 years old with his wife by his side.
Wex was born at home naturally in Laguna Beach on Santa Cruz Street, accompanied simply by a midwife and her assistant. He grew up in Laguna Beach, which is his forever home. Wex was artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting. He loved hanging out with close friends, traveling to new places, shredding big hills with his Laguna Beach Danger Riders (LBDR) crew, and welding.
Wex loved hard. His friends were the greatest and best loves of his life. His magnetism brought any and all together, and he asked for nothing in return (except the occasional boost over a fence). ....

The OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa is looking for workers to help put on the 2021 O.C. Fair, hiring a number of seasonal, part-time positions across several departments.
Jobs include building exhibits to ticket-taking to customer service in departments including parking, security and admissions. Positions are also available for applicants interested in being a member of the maintenance team, landscape crew or janitorial group.
Applicants must be 16 years or older and be willing to take part in virtual interviews and orientations during this year’s hiring process. Hiring has already begun with other start dates staggered toward the operating dates of the O.C. Fair, from July 16 through Aug. 15. ....

It has been 11 months since the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus to be a pandemic, and during that timeframe, some of life’s simple pleasures such as personal relationships have faced stiff challenges.
Merry Tungka, a digital producer at Laguna Sound recording studio, recently lost her grandmother, Katherine, who she would ask what she should be when she grew up. The answer that came was to be kind and a good person.
With Valentine’s Day coming on Sunday, Tungka wanted to make a difference and bring a smile to kids’ faces, so she got some partners together to create gift bags for kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. ....
