One candidate will compete unopposed in the 2021 Democratic primary for one of two open seats on the Pennington Council.
There are also no Republican candidates filed for the Republican primary.
The Pennington Council has 6-0 Democratic majority. The governing body consists of Council President Catherine Chandler, Councilwoman Deborah Gnatt, Councilman Charles Marciante, Councilwoman Beverly Mills, Councilwoman Liz Semple and Councilman Ken Gross.
The current terms of Gnatt and Semple end Dec. 31. ....

The resolution was approved by the council during a meeting on March 1.
The borough’s environmental commission will help guide officials in the process.
“Just want to add that the environmental commission fully supports this initiative and is excited to lead this effort,” Council President Catherine Chandler said. “I think, without a doubt, this is the right move for Pennington Borough and I hope it leads the way for other boroughs to follow.”
According to the resolution, the environmental commission will be responsible for reporting to the council on an annual basis the amount of carbon released by the borough and the amount of carbon offset (reduction in emissions). ....

The second wave of COVID-19, which descended on Princeton in November, may have begun to taper off, as the daily number of new cases appears to have declined during the first few days of February.
The number of positive cases of COVID-19 peaked at 57 in April, and then declined steadily through the spring and summer. The numbers began to creep up in October, when 21 new cases were reported, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
A sharp jump of 67 new positive cases in November was followed by an increase of 93 new cases in December. The numbers soared to 111 in January, the New Jersey Department of Health statistics showed. ....

Montgomery Township Health Officer Stephanie Carey briefed the Pennington Council on the latest information regarding COVID-19.
The Montgomery Township Health Department provides health services to both Pennington and Hopewell Borough in addition to Montgomery Township. In a presentation to the Pennington Council on Feb. 1, Carey said when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic it is a marathon, not a sprint.
“There is some light at the end of the tunnel. Case counts across New Jersey are starting to come come down, granted from a high level, but we are at the lowest levels of infection since Thanksgiving,” she said. “About 7% of New Jerseyans have received their first COVID-19 vaccination. In particular, with a focus on nursing home residents and medical providers who are at high risk of exposure, as we see more nursing homes become vaccinated the outbreaks that have been such a source of illness and suffe ....

Pennington and Hopewell Borough councils re-elect council presidents
Council members in Pennington Borough and Hopewell Borough have re-elected each of their council presidents from 2020.
During reorganization meetings on Jan. 4, Catherine Chandler was elected council president for the Pennington Borough Council and Charles Schuyler Morehouse was also elected to serve as council president for the Hopewell Borough Council.
Pennington: After Chandler and Kennen Gross were sworn in to start their three-year terms on the borough council, Councilman Charles Marciante nominated Chandler for council president. Fellow council members went on to vote unanimously in favor of her election.
