West Virginia Catholic Schools Will Accept ESAs | News, Sports, Jobs

Catholic schools across West Virginia plan to fully participate in the state’s upcoming Hope Scholarship program, which will create educational savings accounts for eligible families to move from public schools to homeschooling or private or parochial schools.
Gov. Jim Justice signed the scholarship program into law in March. Initially, families with children entering kindergarten or transferring out of public schools and into homeschooling or private schools can apply for ESAs for the 2022-23 school year.
“The Hope Scholarship Program can truly serve as a blessing for parents who seek a Catholic education for their children,” said the Most Reverend Mark E. Brennan, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston. “This program empowers parents and families to make decisions about how best to educate their children and in so doing is in keeping with a key tenet of the Catholic faith: that parents are the primary educators of their children.” ....

MONSIGNOR PHILIP SAYLOR
Monsignor Philip P. Saylor, 91, passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Monsignor was the first born of Philip and Katherine (Hoy) Saylor on Oct. 1, 1929 in Centre Community Hospital.
He is survived by a sister, Irene Dornisch and her husband Bernard of Lock Haven; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and a sister, Elizabeth.
He attended the original Saint John’s Catholic School in Bellefonte where he was taught by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. He graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1947, where he was senior class president as well as newspaper editor. ....

Faith leaders urge Scots to take up offer of coronavirus vaccine

Faith leaders in Scotland have joined together to call on people across the country to accept the offer of a coronavirus vaccine.
Rev Dr George Whyte, Principal Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, said it is imperative people keep themselves and others safe.
He has signed a statement with six other faith leaders in a show of support for the vaccination programme being rolled out across the country.
It reads: “We faith leaders in Scotland understand the difficulty that our communities are facing during this pandemic. ....
