Soulsations as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic music label Philadelphia International Records. The groundbreaking label was founded by the phenomenally talented songwriters/producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. Together they lead the way in creating some of the most memorable lyrics and melodies of the past five decades. The label included such artists as McFadden and Whitehead, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and Patti LaBelle. We ll hear a bit from Wichita listener Bernard Knowles about growing up in Philadelphia, surrounded by the rich music.
Plus, this week’s DoubleTake features the Stevie Wonder song “Until You Come Back To Me” performed by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and followed by the Queen of Funk Chaka Khan. Khan recently released a live version of the tune recorded in her hometown of Chicago. ....

It is a great pleasure to be with you on the occasion of the official opening of the Monument Road.
Monument Road serves as an access to the popular Columbus Monument landmark, which was erected to commemorate Christopher Columbus’ landing on Long Island.
The new road is a part of the Government’s efforts to promote heritage tourism for Bahamians and tourists.
The road also provides access to the government s navigational beacon/light house adjacent to the monument.

The old road was a narrow track road in very poor condition making travel difficult and uncomfortable. ....

LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, accompanied by a delegation including Long Island MP Adrian Gibson and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister, officially opened a renovated bridge and road on Long Island today.
“It is a pleasure to be with you today to officially declare open two infrastructure projects for Long Island,” the prime minister said at the opening event. “These projects are part of our vision and plans for the ongoing development of the Bahamas gem and treasure that is Long Island.” ....
