Previously the Belmont-Citizen Herald published two guest commentaries submitted by the undersigned related to terminating Columbus Day as a holiday and substituting in its place Indigenous Peoples Day. For purposes of background to this writing, those two Commentaries are incorporated herein by reference.

Asian Americans and police officers must work together to tackle anti-Asian hate and mitigate Asian underrepresentation in public services, said Belmont Police Chief James Maclsaac at an April 7 Zoom meeting hosted by the Belmont Pan-Asian Coalition.
MacIsaac said he is concerned that some Asian Americans fear coming to the Belmont Police Department for help or have trouble articulating their problems due to language barriers when he tries to facilitate police-resident communication.
“My biggest hope is to let everyone in the Asian community know that we’re always available and will help in any way possible. We must knock down the wall [of communication] and connect police officers and residents who need help,” said MacIsaac. ....
