WASHINGTON, April 20, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Students nationwide will be able to experience national parks in new and exciting ways, thanks to the National Park Foundation s (NPF) Open OutDoors for Kids Hybrid Learning grant program. NPF is awarding grants to 32 National Park Service (NPS) sites and their partners to implement or enhance innovative distance learning programs to better serve educators and students, especially in under-resourced communities. 
Rangers at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks teach students about the park through a virtual program.

A mobile mammography center is hoping to “drive out” breast cancer in South Florida by offering free screenings to uninsured women in Miami-Dade County. 
The
Linda Fenner 3D Mobile Mammography Center,lovingly known as the “mammovan,” is a product of Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. The mobile center works with homeless shelters, advocacy groups and places of worship to provide free mammography screenings to women in underserved communities, said Lorraine Nowakowski, the clinical director of operations at the college.

An analysis of birds that died at Florida wildlife rehabilitation clinics found songbirds and other land-dwelling species were most often killed by traumatic injuries, commonly caused by cats or collisions with buildings, windows or vehicles.
For seabirds, malnourishment was a leading cause of death, possibly due to fluctuations in fish numbers as water temperature warms. 
Florida Museum of Natural History ornithologists examined 1,928 birds, representing 285 species, that succumbed to injuries or illness at rehabilitation clinics from 2015-2019. Trauma was responsible for killing 93 percent of terrestrial birds in the sample and 78 percent of near-shore waterbirds, such as ducks. ....
