Dane Co. plans to invest $2M in Badger Prairie Needs Network expansion, job training initiatives

VERONA, Wis. Dane County is investing $2 million in the Badger Prairie Needs Network to bolster the organization’s job training efforts and fund a new multi-use gathering space.
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced the new funding at a press conference alongside BPNN leaders, representatives from Latino Academy of Workforce Development and other community members.
The planned 4,800 square foot space would be used as a gathering place for job trainings, wellness programming and the relaunch of the organization’s weekend community meal program. BPNN’s weekend meal program previously shut down at the beginning of the pandemic. ....

MADISON, Wis. An area organization has made it their mission to encourage you to shop local. Dane Buy Local is in the middle of its ‘Soup’s On!’ campaign.
‘Soup’s On!’ has become a new tradition of supporting local restaurants. It sold over $75,000 of soup in its first eleven weeks. The program has also donated more than 600 quarts of soup to Healthy Food for All Dane County.
To continue serving soups from local restaurants, ‘Soups On!’ is partnering with the Badger Prairie Needs Network. They’re also working with Green Cab, which is making deliveries to select locations. ....

MADISON, Wis.– Right now, thousands of local families are struggling with food insecurity entering month ten of the pandemic. Meanwhile, local farmers are struggling to sell
their products, too. Last spring, leaders in Dane County came up with a way to help both farmers and families, and the promising partnership will continue through at least the end of July.
The $5 million agreement extension between Dane County and the Second Harvest Food Bank allows the county to buy dairy, meat, and produce from Wisconsin farmers and use those locally-sourced products to stock county food pantries. ....
