May 20, 2021
by Jeanna Lucci-Canapari
Connecticut has been leading the nation in vaccinating its citizens against COVID-19, and was the first state to reach the key milestone of half its adult population vaccinated. Contributing to the success of the state’s effort is a partnership between Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health (YNHH), which together administered the highest number of vaccines of any vaccination site in the state under a single Provider Identification Number (PIN). Seven months and a lifetime ago, Anna Martinelli-Parker had a major decision to make.
Should she leave her parents’ home in Washington, D.C., and start college at Yale in person on campus? Should she live at home and take classes remotely? Or should she take a gap year?
“I knew I wanted to come to New Haven, but it was very hard,” said Martinelli-Parker, a first-year student. “I had to think about my own health … There was a lot of deliberation.” ....

The Yale COVID-19 Vaccination Program, based at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium, is completing its first phase of inoculations and gearing up for the next wave with guidance from the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH).

The shift came as COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer gained final approvals for use in the United States. ....

When a door, cabinet, or just about any other wooden fixture on campus needs replacement or repair, the craftsmen in Yale’s millwork shop stand ready to help. But as the university prepared to welcome back students this fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the millwork team shifted its focus from wood to plastic in order to help minimize the spread of the virus.
And they’ve been at it since.
The shop’s five-member team has produced and installed hundreds of plastic partitions of varying shapes and sizes on desks, tables, and workspaces in more than 80 locations across campus, including in classrooms and all of the residential-college dining halls. They also played a crucial role in the university’s successful COVID-19 testing program by designing, building, and maintaining more than 70 fully e ....
