TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Doug Johnson has resigned as the executive director of the BancorpSouth Arena and Conference Center effective July 31.
He’s returning to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to help with the healthcare of his family.
Johnson was named the director in December 2020.
“We absolutely understand that family comes first,” Tupelo Mayor Todd Jordan said. “Doug has worked tirelessly to create new events at the BancorpSouth Arena & Conference Center. He is leaving us in a stable financial condition and we will continue to build on the momentum created through his leadership.” ....

Mississippi concert venues booking big shows again


Concerts like Foreigner this November at the Brandon Amphitheater will be returning to Mississippi. The 8,400 seat venue provides a nice economic impact for the city in Rankin County.
Fans will soon enjoy concerts once again at the Brandon Ampitheater.  Shut down by the COVID pandemic for a year, the entertainment business is starting to bounce back in Mississippi and across the USA.
Staffers with Central Mississippi’s 8,400-seat venue are advertising five shows through Memorial Day (for up to 2,500 fans) at the outdoors facility in Rankin County. Tickets for the November 14 show featuring Foreigner are on sale. The American-British rock band produced a string of mega-hits like “Cold As Ice’’ and “I Want to Know What Love Is.’’ Mayor Butch Lee would love to see fans show up in big numbers that Sunday evening in his hometown. ....
