Perkiomen Valley, Hatboro-Horsham School Districts suspend bus service after COVID-19 outbreak among drivers

The bus yard will also remain locked in the Hatboro-Horsham School District.
Parents there were notified Wednesday the district will not be able to provide bus transportation for the rest of the week due to positive cases and mandatory quarantining.
District officials said more than 20 staff members, roughly 25 percent of their transportation staff, are currently out of work.

There have been a series of positive COVID cases among employees of the Perkiomen Valley School District s transportation company, Student Transportation of America (STA). The District has contracted services through STA for the past 14 years. STA has been safely transporting Perkiomen Valley School District students since the start of school in September. Two school districts in Montgomery County have shut down all bus service due to a rash of COVID-19 cases among a bus driving company. (Scott Anderson/Patch)
PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA Perkiomen Valley is among two school districts in Montgomery County that have canceled all bus service due to a rash of coronavirus cases among drivers.
The suspension will continue through Feb. 8, school officials said.
A similar closure has impacted the Hatboro-Horsham School District s transportation department, as they have also shut down busing for the rest of this week.

In a statement, the Perkiomen Valley School District said they were currently considering the logistics of bringing students on site without transportation. ....

A coronavirus outbreak among bus drivers, including one who has died, has caused a Montgomery County school district to temporarily halt busing and revert to virtual learning for some students.
The death and rise in cases among drivers and aides for the Student Transportation of America bus company means busing for both public and nonpublic schools at the Perkiomen Valley School District is suspended through Monday, Feb. 8, Superintendent Barbara Russell said in a letter to families. She added that the decision was made based on the recommendation of the Montgomery County Office of Public Health. ....

Two Montgomery County school districts shut down busing due to COVID-19

Two Montgomery County school districts have ceased all bus transportation after a flood of positive test results for the COVID-19 virus among transportation staff.
All classes in the Perkiomen Valley School District were moved to virtual Wednesday after it was announced that more than 25 school bus drivers or bus aides have tested positive for COVID-19, and one of whom died.Â
During Monday night s school board meeting, the board offered its condolences to the family of the driver who died, Lynn Himes.

Bus transportation is not planned to resume until Tuesday.
In Hatboro-Horsham, schools remain open but all bus operations were shut down through Friday after 20 employees had to be quarantined after a COVID-19 transmission was traced to contact at work. ....
