DDR5 I3C bus extension and SPD hub devices qualified for partner firmware

DDR5 I3C bus extension and SPD hub devices qualified for partner firmware
Renesas Electronics Corporation has announced that AMI has qualified the Renesas I3C bus extension products for its MegaRAC SP-X Remote Management Firmware. Having the I3C devices on its approved vendor list allows an easy migration path for customers moving their DDR5 platforms and boards from I2C or other legacy expansion specifications to the new high-speed I3C specification.
The IMX3102 2:1 bus multiplexer, IMX3112 1:2 bus expander, and DDR5 SPD Hub SPD5118 devices offer maximum design flexibility for engineers implementing I3C Basic as a system management bus for control plane designs over a mixture of applications, including data centre and server applications, factory automation, enterprise, and communications equipment. The devices are excellent when there can be multiple masters, a large number of endpoint devices, and long traces – all of which can impact bus complexity and signal integri ....

Supply chain risk: Addressing a multitude of single points of failure -- FCW

By John Loucaides

It s well understood that the technology supply chain introduces risk, but until recently, the focus has been on people and processes, leaving the technology itself as a major visibility gap. To effectively manage supply chain risk, government organizations must understand and address the full scope of the supply chain. As recent attacks have demonstrated, that extends to the software and update process as well.
When considering supply chain risk, an attack during product transport can cause irreparable harm. However, physically tampering with hardware is not scalable. Manipulating the software inside hardware (firmware), on the other hand, very much is. In the Sunburst campaign, attackers delivered a malicious backdoor to over 18,000 SolarWinds customers by compromising the authorized software update infrastructure. This is similar to the previous ShadowHammer attack, where compromised ASUS update servers were used to push malware to hundreds of t ....

Intel Squashes High-Severity Graphics Driver Flaws

Intel is warning on security bugs across its graphics drivers, server boards, compute modules and modems.
Intel has issued fixes for five high-severity vulnerabilities in its graphics drivers. Attackers can exploit these flaws to launch an array of malicious attacks – such as escalating their privileges, stealing sensitive data or launching denial-of-service attacks.
The graphics driver is software that controls how graphic components work with the rest of the computer. Intel develops graphics drivers for Windows OS to communicate with specific Intel graphics devices, for instance. The most serious of the flaws in Intel’s graphics drivers (CVE-2020-0544), which ranks 8.8 out of 10 on the CVSS scale, stems from the kernel mode driver, which is the piece of a graphics driver that executes any instruction it needs on the CPU without waiting, and can reference any memory address that is available. ....
