Shock numbers reveal true extent of Bluesfest fallout

It is now more than a fortnight since the first post-coronavirus Australian music festival, Bluesfest 2021, was set to kick off.
For those on the ground, the impact of the shock cancellation of the 32nd year celebration is still ongoing.
The Bluesfest team recently broke down how much the festival fallout cost them:
2500 WORKERS
140+ trucks and flat-beds, 80+ semi-trailers, 72 lighting towers, 42 generators all went into building the Byron Events Farm site that never got used.
19,500 CHAIRS
The chairs were trucked in and laid out, then repacked and trucked out before the festival could even start.
500 LANTERNS
10km of wiring, all strung by hand, were never used. ....

Brisbane is lifted out of Covid lockdown hours before the Easter holiday weekend

Queensland has recorded just one local case of Covid-19 on Thursday as Brisbane s snap three-day lockdown is lifted hours before the Easter holiday weekend begins.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said 10 cases were recorded state-wide overnight, but all but one of them were found in hotel quarantine.
The one local case went to the same bachelorette party in Byron Bay as a nurse who was infected with coronavirus while working in the Covid-19 ward at Brisbane s Princes Alexandra Hospital.
Ms Palaszczuk said restaurants and cafes in the city can fully re-open as of 12pm on Thursday, but customers throughout Queensland must remain seated. ....

Bluesfest cancelled less than 24 hours before kick-off – Travel Weekly

Less than 24 hours before it was due to have its first musical act onstage, Bluesfest has been cancelled for a second consecutive year due to the evolving COVID-19 situation in Byron Bay and Ballina.
Last month, festival organisers gained approval from NSW Health to welcome roughly 15,000 patrons from tomorrow to the 120-hectare Byron Events Farm site, where artists such as Jimmy Barnes, The Church, Tash Sultana and Kasey Chambers would play to a full-seated outdoor crowd.
NSW Health decided on Monday afternoon to ban Greater Brisbane residents affected by the snap three-day lockdown from day one of Bluesfest.
However, NSW Health issued a statement earlier this afternoon advising that Health Minister Brad Hazzard has signed a public health order cancelling the planned music festival over the Easter period. ....
