IPOD Summit chaired by President Museveni set for Friday


Addressing journalists today, the IPOD council chairperson and also NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba said the 2021 poll was marred with a lot of violence, hate speech and misinformation emphasizing the need to improve the electoral democracy in the country.
Lumumba adds that the summit will also discuss and follow up on the Public Order Management Act and what needs to be done going forward.
The summit will be hosted and convened by President Museveni at Kololo independence grounds.
The opposition Democratic party and JEEMA have agreed to attend the summit.
“Jeema as a party we are committed to support the dialogue process and God willing we shall be there, let’s all support this initiative, we all as Ugandans have problems but we need to sit down together and discuss the issues at hand,” Jeema party. ....

Ugandan human rights lawyer Kiiza says presidential election is invalid

Eron Kiiza, Ugandan human rights attorney and lead counsel of Uganda’s media association, has referred to recent presidential election which took place on Thursday, January 14, 2021 as invalid.
He made this statement last Wednesday from his home in Kampala, during a phone interview for Afrobeatradio show, which airs over Pacifica Network Station, WBAI 99.5 FM in New York, www.wbai.org
Attorney Kiiza joins a growing number of election observers, including top United States diplomat to Africa, Tibor Nagy who described Uganda’s 2021 electoral process as “fundamentally flawed.”

The Observer cartoonist Dr JIMMY SPIRE SSENTONGO released a book about his journey as a cartoonist. The 116-page book is a collection of some of his most famous satirical cartoons that mostly portray the relationship between the state and citizens, oppressed and their oppressors as well as societal humour, writes Ernest Jjingo.
In his book about his journey as a cartoonist, Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo roots his humour from his mother whom he describes as a tough woman. But he and his siblings would always find their way around her toughness by laughing and making fun of her especially at a distance. ....
