Base operations have expanded since then, to include work to prepare Travis for the new KC-46 Pegasus refueling aircraft. Nearly half of those who work at the base live off base and as such are members of the local communities.

Letter to the editor: Honoring public servants

TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. This week marks Public Service Recognition Week. Here in the Pittsburgh area and across the state and country, this week is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the people who serve our government in various ways: our tireless public servants. While Public Service Recognition Week occurs annually during the first full week of May, the celebration this year feels even more meaningful. Over the past 14 months, public workers have continued to serve their communities. Our refuse workers, firefighters, bus drivers, public safety officials, laborers and public administrators have continued to show up every day and do the work required of them to help the city run.
