The federal civil service is huge and varied, with federal employees in jobs across agencies as different as the Justice Department and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.
Love Rutledge is the host of the Fed Upward podcast and a federal employee at the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Readiness. She’s joined the podcast talk about what it s like being a public servant during Public Service Recognition Week.
During the past year, federal employees including more than 48,000 Colorado federal employees have dedicated themselves to keeping our country running during the global pandemic.
They’ve continued to provide essential services delivering the mail, processing stimulus payments, tax refunds, small business loans, Social Security benefits including Medicare and Medicaid to keep households, businesses, and the economy operating. They’ve kept us safe by fighting the COVID-19 virus, battling wildfires, protecting our food supply, and alerting Americans to dangerous weather conditions, among other critical tasks that they perform every day.
Many were on the front lines of the pandemic like VA doctors and nurses risking their own health to serve the American people. Countless workers were sickened by coronavirus while at work, and thousands died as a result. City Council raises concerns about Shelter Solano, but backs CDBG action plan
FAIRFIELD A divided City Council on Tuesday approved the 2021-22 Community Development Block Grant annual Action Plan, which included an amendment for $151,332 in federal CARES Act funds for operations of the Ohio Street Transitional Housing for homeless individuals at high risk for Covid-19.
The vote was 5-2 with Councilwomen Pam Bertani and Catherine Moy dissenting.
The city is slated to receive $834,203 with the maximum of $143,317 designated for allocations in the Public Service category.
There were concerns about the public outreach seeking comment on the plan.
Bertani also raised concerns about how much funding was being allocated to Shelter Inc., which runs Shelter Solano on Beck Avenue, which she said is “underperforming.”

Gov. John Carney signed a proclamation recognizing May 2-8, 2021, as Public Service Recognition Week.
Carney, cabinet members, and the business community have celebrated Delaware’s public servants throughout the week in videos highlighting the extraordinary work of state employees.
