Joanie Best prepares Crawford County for 911 dispatch consolidation

Joanie Best believes she was made to be an emergency services dispatcher. And now she believes the years she’s spent building a career in that difficult field has made her a perfect choice to lead Crawford County into its 911 consolidation process.
“I love it. Dispatch is me. And for 12 years it’s been me,” said Best. “If I had a chance to work overtime, I was there. I love being in the thick of it.”
Best jumped back into the thick of it on June 28 when she was hired as Crawford County’s 911 Communications Director. ....

This is the fourth such payment since the payment system was begun in June 2019.
“It’s very important,” Madison County 911 Director Dana Burris said after the meeting. “It helps alleviate the financial burden on the municipalities. They’re paying the up-front cost for the 911 calls to be answered. ETSB pays for hardware.”
The Madison County Board’s Finance Committee, then the full board must approve the $798,837 payment.
The reimbursement had been discussed seriously since about 2018. Since the 911 system came on line local police departments with the 911 call centers, called Public Service Answering Points or PSAPs, have paid the personnel cost of the system, while Madison County 911 paid for equipment and training. ....
