A St Andrews academic has been given a prestigious honour with a Fellowship.
Brad MacKay, vice-principal for international strategy and external relations, senior vice-principal and professor of strategy at St Andrews University, has been named among 37 leading social scientists to be conferred the title of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
The Academy’s Fellowship is made up of distinguished individuals from academic, public and private sectors, across the full breadth of the social sciences. ....

Successive governments approach to obesity policies has destined them to fail, say researchers.
Government obesity policies in England over the past three decades have largely failed because of problems with implementation, lack of learning from past successes or failures, and a reliance on trying to persuade individuals to change their behaviour rather than tackling unhealthy environments. This is the conclusion of new research by a team at the University of Cambridge funded by the NIHR School for Public Health Research.
The researchers say their findings may help to explain why, after nearly thirty years of government obesity policies, obesity prevalence in England has not fallen and substantial inequalities persist. According to a report by NHS Digital in May 2020, 67% of men and 60% of women live with overweight or obesity, including 26% of men and 29% of women who suffer clinical obesity. Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) are pleased to announce the appointment of ambassadors to its Future of Treescapes research programme.
Professor Clive Potter of Imperial College London and Dr Julie Urquhart of the University of Gloucestershire will be joint Ambassadors, playing a central role in ensuring the programme is highly visible profile and successfully delivered.
