Des Moines County Engineer Brian Carter lays out county roads plans

Assuming all goes according to plan, Des Moines County 99 will get a lot of tender loving care over the next five years.
County Engineer Brian Carter s $22 million roads plan for Fiscal Years 2022-26 includes $6 million in road projects just on DMC 99 and $2.5 million for a bridge over Dry Branch Creek, which is located about a mile north of Flint Creek.
It s a major project, Carter said of the Dry Branch Creek bridge.
Iowa Code 309.22 requires the board of supervisors must submit a plan for road construction for the upcoming fiscal year, as well as the proceeding four fiscal years. According to Carter, years one through four of the plan are expected to represent a realistic representation of what the county expects to spend in the proceeding fiscal years. In year five, the county generally can put any projects that need to be considered in the following years on their radar. ....

Des Moines County supervisors Thomas Broeker, chair, Jim Cary and Shane McCampbell met Tuesday to hear the latest COVID numbers and got some good news relative to all of 2020 from DMC public health director Christa Poggemiller.
We re rolling out the vaccine, Poggemiller said.
She said as of Sunday 1,162 DMC residents were vaccinated for a DMC total of 1,537; out-of-county health workers and others who qualify are included in the overall total even though they don t live here.
We gave more vaccines yesterday, so we anticipate that number will be higher come tomorrow, Poggemiller said, announcing that COVID vaccination numbers are now available online at coronavirus.iowa.gov and are updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. ....

The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors had a full house when other DMC elected officials joined members of other boards and committees in the public meeting room at the Des Moines County Courthouse on Tuesday, Dec. 29. The meeting was live-streamed on youTube and on the County website.
Supervisors Thomas Broeker, chair, and Bob Beck and Jim Cary welcomed sheriff-elect Kevin Glendening and Supervisor-elect Shane McCampbell, who were sworn in after the regular meeting.
COVID-19 update
Des Moines County Public Health Administrator Christa Poggemiller gave the newest numbers: seven-day total new cases were 86 for an 8% infection rate; 14-day total new cases were 150 for an 11% rate. There have been 3,458 cases of COVID-19 in Des Moines County since February. ....
